The pursuit of world peace is a core tenet of Bahá'u'lláh's teachings and a fundamental objective for the Bahá'í community. This vision calls upon humanity to embrace the principle of the oneness of mankind and forsake global conflicts and wars through collective efforts based on unity in diversity, equality, justice, and gender equality at both local and international levels. Additional principles linked to world peace by the Bahá'ís encompass economic justice, the elimination of extreme poverty and excessive wealth, the eradication of all forms of prejudice, compulsory universal education, the harmony between science and religion, and, in addition to one’s native tongue, the adoption of a universal auxiliary language that would be learned in order to enhance global communication and understanding.
Bahá'u'lláh has clarified that, although world peace is of great importance, "unity of conscience" is the foundation upon which lasting peace must be built—solid, stable, and strong. ʿAbdu'l-Bahá also affirmed in His writings that unity is a force that illuminates the horizons and propels every human effort forward.
For the first time in history it is possible for everyone to view the entire planet, with all its myriad diversified peoples, in one perspective. World peace is not only possible but inevitable. It is the next stage in the evolution of this planet—in the words of one great thinker, “the planetization of mankind”.
