Eradication of extreme poverty and wealth

Due to the lack of mutual benefits and harmonious relationships in society today, some members of society live in excessive wealth while others suffer from extreme poverty. There’s no doubt that the world’s economical imbalance is a major cause of social and political instability, which in turn, fuels wars and uprisings that again, increase the economical imbalance that was the original cause of unrest. Every human being born on this earth is entitled to live a life of dignity and well-being.

In every society, there must be clear set laws that are strictly applied in order that a minority of people does not accumulate excessive amounts of wealth whereas others live without any financial means whatsoever.

This does not mean that everyone should be economically equal, rather it means that excessive wealth and extreme poverty and the downturn that is caused by poverty, can be eradicated. At the heart of this principle is the application of Divine Justice, which should be applied in all human conditions as well. As for the principles that govern economical affairs, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá tells us: “The fundamentals of the whole economic condition are divine in nature and are associated with he world of the heart and spirit”. When the spiritual aspect of the human world is improved, then all other aspects are corrected and balanced. In this way, humanity is not stripped of its virtues due to material and worldly greed.
